Dumoy National High School: A Journey of Growth and Commitment

Dumoy National High School began as an annex of Talomo National School. Through the generosity of the Barangay Council of Dumoy, headed by Brgy. Chairman Jessie Mar Y. Culaste and his team, more or less 5,000 sq. m. of land was donated to the Department of Education. This paved the way for the relocation of Dumoy National High School to its new home at Farland Village 1, Dumoy, Davao City. The inauguration of the school was made even more memorable with the presence of then-Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

With the kindness of Soli Deo Gloria Christian Ministry, the school saw the construction of its first one-classroom building, soon followed by another. Due to the shortage of facilities, the faculty room and the Principal’s Office initially had to share one small space. To address the lack of classrooms, the Barangay Council of Dumoy also donated two make-shift classrooms that accommodated 66 learners, alongside the construction of the school’s very first comfort room. Despite these challenges, the pioneer group of teachers remained steadfast, never wavering in their mission to provide quality basic education. The spirit of Bayanihan was deeply evident during this time. Teachers, students, parents, barangay officials, and other stakeholders worked hand in hand—building, fixing, painting, planting, and restructuring—with one shared purpose: Para sa Bata.

Over the years, Dumoy National High School has kept pace with the demands of a growing community, striving to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for its learners. With the continued generosity of its stakeholders, the school was eventually able to construct an Administrative Building, housing the offices of the Principal, the Acting Administrative Officer, the Registrar, and the Property Custodian.

In 2019, the City Government of Davao donated a new Junior High School Building, which was formally opened for use in School Year 2021–2022. The building, consisting of four classrooms equipped with internet access, provided students with greater opportunities for research and innovation. The areas in front of both the JHS and SHS buildings were also cemented, thanks to the support of kind-hearted stakeholders.

The back portion of the new JHS building was transformed into one of the school’s “greenest” areas, planted with fruit-bearing trees such as lemon and papaya. Meanwhile, the space adjacent to the Admin Building was developed into the Gulayan sa Paaralan in support of DepEd’s program on sustainability. Visible improvements across the campus included vibrantly painted pots, a newly installed flagpole, a repainted main gate, a handwashing station near the entrance, washing areas beside the JHS building, well-structured classrooms, and fully functional comfort rooms.

At present, Dumoy National High School is composed of 30 dedicated teaching personnel, 1 Administrative Officer, and 3 Civil Security Guards, serving 786 learners from Grades 7 to 12 under the leadership of Mr. Renz Angelo D. Calzada. Guided by its strong commitment to excellence, the school remains steadfast in its mission and continues to aspire for growth and innovation, with a vision of becoming a Bigger and Better Dumoy National High School in the years to come.
